The incumbent shall be responsible for overall in-house counsel and oversight over the contract management process, contract reviews, and contract negotiations across all operational sectors including motor vehicles, technologies, consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, procurements, sales agreement, and any other contractual arrangement as requested by the executive.

Main Duties
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and oversee the legal department, ensuring that it is adequately resourced and team members trained and promote the efficient and effective delivery of legal services to the Group.
- Act as Inhouse Legal counsel providing legal support and advice to the Group’s operations including marketing, sales, human resources, finance, audit amongst others.
- Within the compliance capacity, oversee and forward the Group’s corporate compliance programme, in keeping with international best standards and provide compliance support, including systems and advice on matters including AML/CFT, Pharmacovigilance and other compliance requirements across various sectors.
- Act as the Group Head of Data Protection advising on GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA and MDPA amongst others across the Group’s operations and ensure that all registrations, DPA and Cross border agreements and Records of Processing are completed as per regulatory requirements.
- Provide the Group with various trainings as the need arises and as requested by the executive, including contracts, legal risk, intellectual property, marketing restrictions, and data protection.
- Oversee and handle various statutory filings and various licensing and act as ‘product counsel’ for product launches across the Group.
- Lead litigation management, working closely with external counsel to ensure that documentation, evidence, and arguments align with the position of the executive and are in the best interests of the Group.
- Assist in the Customer compliance management system, including customer responses.
- Anticipate Group legal risk, assess the risks strategically and identify proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risk in line with the Group’s ERM strategy as well as educate the executive on legal risks.
- Provide quarterly reports to the executive on the state of legal affairs, risk identified and proposals for consideration to the Board.
Qualifications
- Licenced to practice in Mauritius. A licence for additional jurisdiction(s) is a bonus.
- An LLB from a duly recognised educational institution. An LLM will constitute a definite advantage.
- At least 10 years work experience. Experience as inhouse legal counsel is a bonus.
- ACC Certified legal counsel will be considered first.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Must be fluent in English and French
- Must have a strong commercial and corporate law background.
- International mindset and proof of professional success in a large corporation or a large group. Relevant International experience is a bonus.
